Daniel Smith Extra Fine Watercolors offer the widest range of lightfast, highly pigmented, and unique colors in the world. With more than 260 colors, you can find your creative inspiration in traditional watercolor hues, gorgeous earth colors, granulating paints made from minerals and gemstones, and bright, bold modern hues. Between the Extra Fine, PrimaTek, and Luminescent lines, you can paint anything you can imagine!
Each paint has excellent brushing properties and creates clean mixtures, whether mixing on the palette or layering washes. Formulated to meet and exceed the highest quality standards, each batch is analyzed for its performance qualities of lightfastness, color value, tinting strength, clarity, vibrancy, undertone, particle size, density, and viscosity. Made by hand in Seattle, Washington, USA.
Luminescent Watercolor - Capture shimmer, shine, and light with these specialty colors that feature optical effects found in nature. Use them alone or mix them with other colors. Iridescent colors reflect light to create a shiny surface, much like a mirror. Interference colors change hue depending on the light direction and show their qualities best over dark backgrounds. Duochrome colors bounce between two different hues depending on the viewing angle. Pearlescent colors add opalescence to a color it's mixed or glazed with.
PrimaTek Watercolor - Daniel Smith PrimaTek Watercolors retain many of the natural qualities of their source minerals. In artist's paint, the size of the pigment particle is very important - it determines the amount of light that is reflected and, therefore, the intensity of the paint. Standard pigments are produced in labs and adhere to a specific size. When Daniel Smith develops PrimaTek pigments, they mill the minerals to a point where the color is optimized. Pigments that are too large are gritty and, if milled too far, the color can appear dull. The resulting characteristics of these PrimaTek paints vary based on the mineral. Most have a natural luminosity and many granulate.

Company Info: | In 1976, while working as a commercial printer, Daniel Smith realized that commercial printing inks were insufficient for the needs of the print artist. Scraping enough money together to purchase on old 3-roll mill, Dan Smith began manufacturing a more specialized ink with the lightfastness and working characteristics that artists desired. Over the years, as Dan's partnership with artists grew, so grew the business. In 1993, Dan set out to create a line of watercolors with one goal in mind: to bring the watercolor artist the very best product available. His dream came to fruition with the introduction of a hugely innovative collection of 27 paints that just happened to change the world of watercolors forever. Today, Daniel Smith Artists' Materials is a leading designer and manufacturer of thousands of art products, substrates and unique items found nowhere else. Their commitment to partnering with artists continues, as does the desire to never stop thinking like one. Made by hand, in the USA. |
