Gamblin Oil Mediums

Gamblin's contemporary mediums are true to historic working properties, yet safer and more permanent. These painting mediums extend and modify the working properties of oil colors, offering fluid consistency for expressive mark making to a stiff paste for creating thick, crisp marks. Gamblin's mediums broaden the visual qualities of oil color while increasing the transparency of paint layers and creating a range of surface qualities from high gloss to matte.

Mediums Set - The Gamblin Mediums Set contains a sampling of Gamblin painting mediums and offers an introduction to understanding their role in a modern painting studio. This Medium Set recreates the properties of traditional mediums while providing a way for painters to expand their knowledge and techniques. The set includes a 2 oz. bottle each of Galkyd, Neo Meglip, Refined Linseed Oil, Gamsol, a 37 ml tube of Galkyd Gel, a 2 ml. jar of Cold Wax Medium and a 15 ml. tube of Titanium White oil paint.

Must Have Mediums Set - The Gamblin Mediums Set contains a sampling of mediums including everything you need to start painting, clean-up, and varnish your finished work. This Mediums Set recreates the properties of traditional mediums while providing a way for painters to expand their knowledge and techniques. Each set comes in a reusable hemp bag with information on each medium and their best use, including QR tags connecting artists to tips and techniques. The set includes a 2 oz. bottle each of Gamsol, Linseed Oil, Galkyd Lite, Gamvar Gloss Varnish, a 37 ml tube of Solvent-Free Gel, and a 2 oz. jar of Cold Wax Medium.

Cold Wax Medium - Made from naturally white, pure beeswax and formulated to a knife consistency, Cold Wax Medium makes oil colors thicker and more matte. May also be applied alone as a matte varnish.

Galkyd Lite - Galkyd Lite Medium thins oil colors, increases transparency and gloss while its thin layers are touch-dry in 24 to 30 hours. When used in moderation with oil colors, Galkyd Lite retains brushstrokes, is more fluid and less glossy compared to Gamblin Galkyd Medium.

Galkyd - Gamblin Galkyd is a fast-drying painting medium that thins oil colors while increasing transparency and gloss. When used in greater proportions with oil color, Galkyd will level brushstrokes, creating an enamel-like surface that will be touch-dry in approximately 24 hours.

Galkyd Gel - Gamblin Galkyd Gel is a stiffer gel compared to Gamblin Neo Megilp, holding thicker, sharper brushmarks and drying more quickly. Galkyd Gel increases transparency of oil colors and creates impasto. Available in a 150 ml. tube.

Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits - Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits is excellent for thinning Gamblin mediums as well as general oil painting and cleanup. Gamsol is a safe solvent, when used as recommended, that allows artists to work in traditional and contemporary techniques without compromise.

Neo Megilp - This soft gel medium maintains the body of oil colors, dries at a moderate rate and remains workable for hours. Neo Megilp produces a luminous Turner-like atmosphere and imparts a smooth, silky feel while increasing transparency and flow. This medium gives colors a satin gloss and is made from contemporary materials so it will not turn yellow or darken as it did in the 17th and 18th centuries. Gamblin Neo Megilp may also replace Maroger Medium for artists who love the working properties but are now concerned about Maroger's poor aging qualities.

Refined Linseed Oil - Pressed from American flax seeds, Refined Linseed Oil may be used to thin oil colors while increasing brilliance and transparency or to extend the drying times of oil painting mediums. Gamblin Refined Linseed Oil is as light and pure as industrially produced linseed oil can be made.

Safflower Oil - Gamblin Safflower Oil is a very pale, slow drying oil that is used as a binder in Gamblin's oil colors. This oil is completely non-toxic and may be used as a painting medium to increase flow and slow drying of oil paints.

Solvent-Free Fluid Medium - Gamblin Solvent-Free Fluid Medium provides colors more flow and transparency. This solvent-free medium increases gloss and has a moderately fast drying rate.

Solvent-Free Gel - Gamblin Solvent-Free Gel is a solvent-free painting medium that supports a broad range of painting techniques with minimal compromise. This gel offers colors more flow and transparency, yet holds the shape of your brush marks. In comparison to other solvent-free mediums, Gamblin Solvent-Free Gel supports the broadest range of painting techniques with the least compromise across color, dry time, texture and mark-making. To ensure proper drying of paint layers, Solvent-Free Gel should be used in moderation with oil colors no more than 25% by volume. To avoid wrinkling, apply mixtures of Solvent-Free Gel and oil colors thinly. Like linseed oil and walnut oil, Gamblin Solvent-Free Gel can effectively clean brushes during your painting session. For clean-up after painting, we recommend Gamsol and/or soap and water.
