Winsor & Newton used their unique brush-making expertise to provide artists an innovative alternative to real sable with the Professional Watercolor Synthetic Sable brush range.

Rigorously tested by artists, this blend of synthetic bristles offers the quality and performance you'd typically see in a natural sable brush but in an economical, animal-friendly version. The Professional Watercolor Synthetic Sable brush delivers excellent color carrying capacity, the ability to make a variety of marks, and resilient spring and shape retention to allow for superior control.

The ergonomic sculpted handle with a matte finish provides the ultimate comfort and control while painting. The Birchwood used for the handle is FSC Certified and obtained from sustainable sources, and ongoing consideration is given to the growth of responsible forest management.

Available in a range of sizes across seven shapes, this range was curated by artists for artists and handmade in England, which has been producing fine art brushes by hand since the 1850s.

Mop - This is a round, full brush useful for broad washes with thinned color.

One Stroke - This is a short flat watercolor brush that's ideal for edges and shapes or applying washes.

Pointed Round - An adaptation of the round, the extra fine tapered point aids accuracy and fine detail work, while the belly holds plenty of color.

Quill - A thick belly enables this brush to hold large amounts of color while the fine point gives control and responsiveness with washes.

Rigger - This long-bristled brush has an extra fine point for lines, long scroll work, and detail.

Round - Rounds are very versatile brushes especially suited for fine detail, lines, and glazes. A traditional round shape is ideal for use when accuracy and detail is required.

Wash - This is an extra wide, flat-handled wash brush for covering large areas and applying glosses and varnishes.
