Janet Rogers In-Person Art Workshop: Expressive, Loose Watercolors – Flowers to Figures, August 25-29, 2025: Fresh flowers will inspire this workshop as we move from floral painting to the head and figure. Students will explore a loose style, focusing on translucent flesh tones, gestures, and techniques for painting children. Bring your camera to document your progress, and enjoy a “Show and Tell” to celebrate your creativity!

Fresh flowers in the studio for each student will be the inspiration for the beginning of this dynamic workshop – progressing to the head and figure. Through a series of fun painting exercises, students will develop a more loose and natural approach – giving them an opportunity to be more spontaneous and expressive in their paintings. In our approach to learning how to interpret the head and figure, we will learn to create translucent flesh tones, while focusing on the gesture of the person. Painting children will also be covered. Bring your camera (or phone) – you may want to take photos of paintings, experiences, etc! Besides class demonstrations throughout the workshop, Janet will work individually with each person also, making sure they understand the painting concepts – a truly “hands-on” experience. Focusing on discovering how to control and make dynamic color, avoiding mud, leaving white paper, design, and expression, we will also have “Show and Tell” – an opportunity to share and see how we exceed our expectations!

Pre-class instructions and/or specific details will be emailed 1 week prior to the workshop.
Level 2 (and up) - Beginner-Intermediate: Reviews basic techniques for beginners as needed, and offers practice exercises at an average pace to assist in gaining confidence and experience with the medium. Assistance is given to all.
Janet Rogers has been a working professional artist for over 35 years, and has achieved Signature Status in The American Watercolor Society, The Florida Watercolor Society, South Carolina Watercolor Society and others. She has garnered many awards over the years for her sensitive paintings of people which are spontaneous, direct, and expressive. Janet shares easily with others her passion and joy for the fluid and unexpected nature of watercolor.

- A $30 cancellation fee applies if you cancel at least 8 days in advance.
- Cancellation requests must be emailed directly to meghann@cheapjoes.com.
- No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 8 days prior to, during, or after the class.
- Transfers to a different workshop are not permitted.
- There are no refunds or discounts for missed sessions or no-shows.
- If Cheap Joe's or the instructor cancels the class, you will receive a full refund of tuition, but not for other related expenses.
- Please do not combine supply purchases and workshop purchases in the same order.
