Grumbacher Pre-tested Professional Oil Paint, Van Dyck Brown, is made with pure pigments milled in alkali-refined linseed oil. Van Dyck Brown was named after the Flemish painter Van Dyke. This moody dark rich brown oil paint is identical to the fugitive original soft coal based pigment and was a favorite among the Old Masters for creating the deep backgrounds for portraiture. Van Dyck Brown is excellent for creating a gallery tone effect, and chiaroscuro paintings. Formulated from Lignite based Earth (Pbr8).
