Geoff Allen Online Art Workshop: Sketching Your Way to a Looser Watercolor: Join Geoff's creative sketching workshop to quickly capture scenes in plein air and improve your compositions! Suitable for both studio and plein air artists, this session will cover drawing strategies, from contour lines to light sketching. Geoff will create a three-value sketch and demonstrate how to use three washes for a loose, translucent watercolor painting. Enhance your skills and have fun!

If you are interested in capturing scenes quickly in plein air, desire to paint loosely, and want to improve upon your compositions, then creative sketching before you start painting is for you. Studio artists, as well as plein air artists, will benefit from this valuable workshop. Watercolor painting can be unforgiving, but if you create a structured plan of light and shadow, your ability to play and “get loose” increases. During the class Geoff will demonstrate and discuss drawing strategies and styles, from contour line to light sketching. He will create a three-value sketch from his drawing to transfer to his watercolor paper. From there Geoff will use three washes to create a translucent and loose watercolor painting. Students are encouraged to paint on their own after the demonstrations. This workshop is best suited for artists having basic watercolor experience, and up. The class will be taught and hosted by Cheap Joe’s, using the Zoom platform, and enrolled students will have unlimited, lifetime access to the videos following the workshop. Students will receive specific workshop details and Zoom log-in information, by email, about a week prior to the workshop.

Pre-class instructions and/or specific details will be emailed 1 week prior to the workshop.
Level 2 (and up) - Beginner-Intermediate: Reviews basic techniques for beginners as needed, and offers practice exercises at an average pace to assist in gaining confidence and experience with the medium. Assistance is given to all.
Cancellation Policy - By completing your purchase transaction, you agree to accept the following cancellation/refund policy: A $30 cancellation fee applies if you cancel at least 8 days in advance. Cancellation requests need to be emailed directly to edwina@cheapjoes.com. There is NO refund, for any reason, less than 8 days prior, during, or after the class. You cannot transfer to a different workshop. There are no refunds or discounts for missed sessions or no-shows. If the instructor allows the workshop to be recorded, the videos are only available to enrolled students. If you cannot attend the live sessions but want to receive the videos, please notify Edwina in advance of the workshop. No-shows, without prior notification, will not receive video access. If Cheap Joe's or the instructor cancels the class, you will receive a full refund of tuition, but not other related expenses. Please do not combine supply purchases and workshop purchases in the same order. (policy effective 11/15/2023)
