Kathleen Conover's Essential Gesso Juice Kit is a highly versatile, semi-transparent white acrylic ground suitable for the experimental or traditional water media artist who wants to explore new options and add a contemporary twist to their work. Gesso Juice is the secret ingredient behind the award-winning paintings by Kathleen Conover, as well as the foundation of her popular workshop, "Chaos to Order".

Gesso Juice can be used in many different and creative ways. Apply it with brushes, stencils, stamps, etc. to partially cover your paper or board with expressive marks, textures, and patterns that will reveal themselves through subsequent painting layers. Or use it to cover your entire painting substrate as an inviting surface on which to paint. It greatly facilitates the lifting of watercolor to retrieve the light, often even back to white! Try applying Gesso Juice gently with soft brush strokes, more aggressively with scrapers and spatulas, through mono-printing, or scraping through a wet layer with calligraphic marks (called “sgraffito").

Gesso Juice is also an excellent color paint for bringing light back into paintings through layers, building up lights much as traditional watercolorists build up darks. It gives you one more tool towards your personal expression and creative goals!
