Clairefontaine Pastelmat Boards feature 170 lb (360 gsm) Pastelmat Card mounted to a rigid 1.8 mm. thick board. They make for a sturdier pastel paper that's less prone to denting, and are ideal when working on an easel, en plein air, and for any technique that requires a rigid surface.
Pastelmat Boards have the same great characteristics as Pastelmat card, which was developed to meet the specifications of the most demanding pastel, charcoal, and graphite artists. The singular surface is a true innovation that combines the advantages of two traditional papers, offering a coarser surface than velour but a softer surface than sanded paper. Fine particles affixed to the surface create a velvety drawing surface that will hold multiple layers of pastel and reduce the need for fixative. That means your colors remain vibrant. The smoothness of the cork grain in the adhesive ensures longevity.
This archival art board is acid-free and lightfast. While perfect for dry media, Pastelmat is also water-resistant and can be used with water media like acrylics, watercolor, inks, and mixed media techniques. Available in 19-1/2" x 27-1/2" five board packs.
