Ampersand Scratchbord Tools

Ampersand Scratchbord tools allow artists to render fine details and unique textures on Claybord, Scratchbord, and other scratch art boards and papers. Experiment with each of them to see just how creative you can be when drawing with light on dark!

Scratchbord Tool Kit - Includes everything you need to get started making scratch art. Contains two scratch knife blades (one fine point and curved) with a plastic nib holder, a stainless steel wire brush, a line tool, a fiberglass erasing brush, and a piece of steel wool. The kit also includes a 4-1/2" x 11" sample of Ampersand Scratchbord for experimentation.

Scratchbord Fiber Brush - Use the scratchboard fiber brush tool like an eraser to soften crisp edges and to create gradual tonal values. Use a soft brush to remove the erasure dust instead of your hand because the fiberglass fibers can cause skin irritation. Not recommended for children.

Scratchbord Line Tool - Use the scratchboard line tool for parallel lines and easy cross-hatching. This tool has five needles tightly pressed together so you can create extremely fine cross-hatching details.

Scratchbord Scratch Knife - The scratch knife tool is the best tool to select when trying scratchboard for the first time. It can create a variety of marks and line widths when drawing and making contour lines on scratchboard. Comes with 2 knife blade nibs, one pointed and one curved, and a plastic nib holder.

Scratchbord Wire Brush - Use the wire brush scratchboard tool for creating random textures like hair, grass and fur. Curved stainless steel wires are held together in this wood handled tool.

Oil-Free Steel Wool - Artist-grade oil-free steel wool is designed for removing pigment from large areas and for creating tonal values. It's the only steel wool that quickly removes paint and ink without leaving behind an oil residue. For use with Scratchbord, Claybord, scratchboard and other fine art surfaces, it leaves Claybord clean and white when used to remove inks, watercolors, gouache and more. Each package comes with one pad each of grades 0000 Very Fine, 00 Fine, and #3 Coarse.
