Ampersand Aquabord is a textured, highly absorbent surface designed for use with watercolors and gouache. Aquabord painting panels are crafted from premium, warp-resistant 1/8" FSC-certified Hardbord that is protected with Ampersand's proprietary Archiva-Seal to prevent yellowing. Each panel is coated with an acid-free clay and mineral ground with a texture similar to cold-pressed watercolor paper.
Aquabord gives unprecedented freedom and control when watercolor painting. Comparable to watercolor paper, this mixed media panel simulates the absorbency and texture of cold-pressed paper but allows color to be lifted back to white easily while also leaving the richest, most vibrant color possible. Aquabord art panels will not tear, shrink, or buckle even under heavy water applications. No stretching or mounting is required, making these panels a perfect surface for plein air.
The re-workable surface provides natural-looking highlights, fluid glazes, transparent subtle layers, and the ability to lift color while the surface is wet or even after it is dry.
Aquabord allows artists to frame and display their art without glass if desired. The edges of each panel have clean edges. The artwork may be sealed with a spray fixative.

1/8" Flat Panel - These flat, un-cradled panels are ideal for plein air painting for their sturdiness and portability. The edges are cleanly finished and ready to pop into a frame, if desired.
2" Deep Cradle - The innovative and elegant cradles provide extra support and presentation all in one. The Deep Cradle have a 2" birch plywood cradle attached flush with the back edge of each panel. The plywood sides may be stained, painted, gessoed, waxed, or left unfinished to customize and enhance your work.
