Appalachian Summer Festival

Blue Ridge Parkway
Outstanding scenery and recreational opportunities make the Blue Ridge Parkway one of the most popular units of the National Park System. “America’s Favorite Drive” winds its way 469 miles through mountain meadows and past seemingly endless vistas.

Watauga County Farmer's Market
A Saturday morning highlight for the locals and visitors is the Watauga County Farmer’s Market. Lots of fresh baked goods, jams/jellies, farm veggies, plants and crafts to fill your longing for something special. Market is open from May through October.
High Country Host
After visiting Cheap Joe’s, stop by the High Country Host. They have info and brochures on just about everything you would want to do while in the area. Other than painting, one of Joe’s favorite pastimes is fly fishing. The North Carolina high country offers some of the best trout fishing on the east coast. Grandfather Mountain
No trip to the High Country would be complete without a trek up the 5,964 tall Grandfather Mountain. It features a wildlife habitat and “Mile High Swinging Bridge”. Open Daily except for Christmas Day and Thanksgiving Day, weather permitting in winter. Weekdays, 9-5. 1-800-468-7325.
Horn In The West
Located right next door to the Farmer’s Market, this High Country institution is one of the nation’s only outdoor theatres. Come and enjoy the compelling story of American hero Daniel Boone and the intrepid settlers of America in their journey westward. Shows nightly from Mid - June through Mid - August (closed Mondays). Mast General Store
Another of Cheap Joe’s favorite things to do is to browse the shelves of the area's oldest store. Kind of a cross between LL Bean and the “Country Store” of old, it’s a trip worth taking.
The Blowing Rock
Since 1933, North Carolina’s oldest travel attraction. The Blowing Rock Attraction is an immense cliff 4000 feet above sea level, overhanging Johns River Gorge 3000 feet below. Open all year, weather permitting.
Blowing Rock Art and History Museum
The Blowing Rock Art & History Museum (BRAHM) is nestled on the south end of Main Street in charming Blowing Rock, NC. The state-of-the-art, LEED-certified building houses exhibits that range from works from the permanent collection to exhibitions on loan with a focus on American artists and the history of the mountain region.
Turchin Center for the Visual Arts
The Turchin Center for the Visual Arts fulfills Appalachian State University's long-held mission of providing a home for world-class visual arts programming. The center is the largest facility of its kind in western North Carolina, eastern Tennessee and southwestern Virginia, and is named for university benefactors Robert and Lillian Turchin. Featuring two wings of exhibition and support space and the Arnold P. Rosen Family Education Wing, the center is located on King Street in the heart of downtown Boone, North Carolina.
Tweetsie Railroad
Tweetsie Railroad is a unique attraction that allows children and families to explore their imaginations and a whole lot more. Be a cowboy, Indian or an engineer. And of course, every guest will want to take a ride on thier historic steam locomotive, Number 12, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Rocky Knob Park
Rocky Knob Park hosts 8 miles of mountain bike trails for all skill levels, three shelters, an adventure playground, and picnic areas. Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park is located just east of the city limit on US 421. Very close to Cheap Joe's!
