Love is in Your Art!

February is the Lover’s month and aren’t we all lovers of some sort. Lovers of art, of music, of the mountains, or of the ocean, and of another, and our families and friends, or of travel, and adventure. The list goes on and on.

So, we all are lovers of something.

The old saying goes, “To know me is to love me”. If you love something, you will be patient and take time to get to know it. It takes time. Sometimes, it takes a very long time. But if we stick with it, we will get to know and love it. And it will be part of who we are forever.

I think Art is like that.

Love shows up in all forms and in the strangest places like on Web’s forehead!

The first thing that happens is that you notice art.
It grabs your attention.
It appeals to you and becomes your friend.
And then you fall in love with it.
Your curiosity grows and you wonder if you could create art, as well.
Well, why not, you say, and you seek out information on the process.
You acquire all of the materials right down to the last pigment.
And then, you paint. But, you really don’t get the results you were hoping for.
Because, in reality, you really don’t know the materials personally.
Why they act like they do.
Why they go here or there, or are bright or dull.
Every pigment has its own personality, as do the brushes and the paper.
You have to get to know them.
So, you go looking for guidance, instruction from a more experienced artist that you can learn from.
You watch, and listen, and learn as much as you can, then, repeat what the instructor is doing.
But, even still, you didn’t completely understand the technique, just how to copy the artist.
Not necessarily how to use it, where to use it, when to use it, or why it does what it does.

This will take time.
So, you keep going and yes, you will mess up along the way.
But the most important thing to remember is that you must not quit.
It takes time to get to know something.
Give it time, the love will come, the success will come. Just you wait!
And if your workshop instructors, if they really love what they are doing, they will bring the love to you.
They will spread the love.
I think you will find, that if your instructor is patient, kind, not arrogant, or rude, or irritable, but keeping of a happy attitude, you will love your experience with them and learn an enormous amount.
This type of instructor never stops believing and hoping and encouraging you to never give up.
They, ultimately, are the people who will remain in your mind and soul forever a special part of the art that you create from then on.

So, in order to do what you love, you must love what you do!

LOVE IS…

Love is patient.
Love is kind.
Love isn’t jealous.
It doesn’t sing its own praises.
It isn’t arrogant.
It isn’t rude.
It doesn’t think about itself.
It doesn’t keep track of wrongs.
It isn’t happy when injustice is done,
But it is happy with the truth.
Love never stops being patient,
Never stops believing,
Never stops hoping,
Never gives up.
Love never comes to an end.

Spread the Love!

Spread the Love, by sharing your loves with another loved one! It may be you that changes their ideas about art! Show them a new technique, take them to an art exhibit, share your art supplies with them or take them shopping at Cheap Joe’s! Just take time to get to know them and their art. Remember, to know them is to love them.
